At Redondo de Guayedra, we promote sustainable and regenerative tourism, encouraging environmental conservation, the creation of quality jobs, and visitor education. This has a positive impact on the region and its culture.
Our tourism leaves no trace on the land, but leaves a mark on the hearts of our visitors, improving the quality of life for the people living in this corner of paradise and for future generations.
Restoration of existing ponds and water collection: We have restored the traditional ponds in the valley to capture and store rainwater flowing from the Tamadaba Massif.
Efficient water management: Collecting and storing water from Tamadaba ensures our self-sufficiency in terms of irrigation and consumption. Additionally, we use controlled and efficient irrigation systems to minimise water usage for crops, protecting this scarce island resource.
Renewable energy: Solar panels cover a large proportion of the farm's energy requirements, reducing our dependence on non-renewable sources. Redondo de Guayedra promotes responsible energy use across all its facilities, striving to set an example for energy self-sufficiency in the region.
Soil protection and biodiversity: Thanks to an agreement signed with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, we have reforested 60 hectares and reintroduced endemic species, thus promoting a healthy and resilient ecosystem.
Traditional organic farming: Our crops are certified organic and grown outdoors using traditional methods. This type of farming contributes to soil health and allows crops and wildlife to coexist in sustainable harmony.
Low light pollution: All our outdoor lighting is designed to minimise light pollution in the valley, earning us the Starlight Accommodation designation.
Waste reduction: Redondo de Guayedra minimises waste through recycling and composting, as well as by avoiding single-use plastics. We encourage our guests to contribute to this philosophy during their stay.
Zero food waste: At Redondo de Guayedra, we are working towards eliminating food waste, which is why we only offer lunch and dinner on request. We reuse organic waste to feed the farm animals and produce compost for our crops.
We collect and reuse invasive plants: We give them a second life. We collect them and use them as fuel.
Eco-efficient construction and materials: The buildings at Redondo de Guayedra are renovated using traditional Canarian techniques and low-impact local materials, while respecting the original architecture. This allows for harmonious integration with the environment and reduces environmental impact.
We promote responsible tourism: We promote responsible tourism by informing guests about sustainable practices, such as the efficient use of resources and respect for local fauna and flora. We also educate guests about their role in protecting the environment.
Transparency and communication: Redondo de Guayedra shares its sustainability achievements and environmental practice advances through accessible, verified information, fostering trust with guests and the community.
Support for local suppliers: The estate collaborates closely with farmers, artisans, and other local suppliers to promote the circular economy, strengthen nearby communities, and contribute to the region's sustainable development.
Local job creation: Redondo de Guayedra prioritises hiring regional staff, providing stable employment and training in sustainability and skills development. This reinforces the community's commitment to the project and promotes socio-economic growth.
Sustainable mobility: Within the farm, electric vehicles are used, and hiking trails are promoted to reduce transport emissions.
Emissions offsetting: Reforestation programmes using native flora restore the landscape and offset the carbon footprint, ensuring the farm's activities have a positive impact on CO₂ capture.
Logistics optimization: The estate plans all its operations, including supply and transport logistics, to reduce fossil fuel use and minimise emissions, thus supporting responsible resource management.
Promotion of local culture and traditions: The activities and experiences offered at Redondo de Guayedra connect visitors with the history and traditions of Guayedra, respecting and preserving its unique cultural value.
Conscious tourism: We encourage respect for cultural heritage and avoid the excessive commercialisation of local practices, providing visitors with an authentic and respectful experience with the host community.
Education in cultural heritage: We provide informational materials so that our guests can learn about the region's history, customs and values, promoting a deep understanding and appreciation of the local heritage.
Innovation and continuous improvement: We are committed to constantly evaluating and adapting our practices, incorporating new technologies and methods that improve the sustainability and positive impact of the farm.
Guest feedback: We value guest feedback, which we use to implement continuous improvements in our operations and sustainability practices.
Since the beginning of our project in 1994, sustainability has been one of the core values that has guided our work.
